As the year ends I have found that now is the time to evaluate how the year went. I work with my clients to ensure they do a thorough review of their past year.
I break things down in the aggregate first. How did they do versus the plan that was developed? We then perform a mini SWOT to see the positives and the negatives.
Now that we have an overview of the 12 months, I go more in depth to see how the year progressed on a quarter by quarter basis. I break the quarters down laddering back to the annual goals. This allows me to see if they stayed the course or where they may have deviated from the plan. In addition, I look at the reasons for the straying. I can evaluate how they did without the emotion of the moment. This objectivity helps me understand what transpired over the year and even more importantly assists in my making sure that we repeat what was successful and eliminate any mistakes. By going in depth, I can prepare them for 2021 and ensure they realize there is a path of success for them to follow. Plus by understanding when an issue arises, they comprehend what needs to be done to stay on course.
This resolve provides them with confidence that the coming year will get off to a positive start and the impact we desire will be attained.
After all, learning from failures and not repeating the same mistakes is a great way to expand your horizons.
Here’s to your better way to start 2021!
