It has been over 51 years since the city of Cleveland celebrated a professional sports championship!
Now, the streak of futility has ended….finally!!! When one examines what led to the championship, the key element that comes before all others is the concept of teamwork. Putting individual goals second makes the primary objective helping everyone succeed together. How many organizations provide group bonuses? How many endeavors reward the top salesperson? Do businesses share their success?
Watching the best player in the game today, LeBron James, focus on getting everyone involved by sharing the ball filled me with pride as a Clevelander. LeBron could have done whatever he wanted, but the key to winning was helping the rest of the team realize that sharing could create multiple opportunities for success versus success for only one. The individual might receive praise for their effort, but the difference between winning and losing was not based on one person. The key shot in the game came from Kyrie Irving not LeBron James. I wonder if Irving would have made the dramatic shot, if not for the involvement previously created by LeBron?
Remember you succeed as a team. It is much more fun to share success. If you don’t believe me, watch the Cleveland Cavaliers victory parade and see the tears of joy from the players and fans alike.
