When I think of August, my mind tends to drift away from work. Instead, I think of vacations, travel, exploring new places, and just plain relaxing. August evokes images of taking it easy, enjoying the pleasant weather, and engaging in long days filled with outdoor activities. Notice that work and business are notably absent from my thoughts about August in years past.
However, as I have matured, a new perspective has taken root. What if, instead of slowing down, I focused on my business while others were taking time off? What if I used this time to network even more than usual during this typically slow period? What if I reached out to people I had been too busy to connect with earlier in the year? After all, since I wasn’t planning a vacation, I had more free time on my hands.
This shift in strategy has yielded surprising benefits. By not following the crowd, I’ve managed to stand out. Many people were delighted to hear from someone during this quiet time, often feeling as though they were the only ones not on vacation. Additionally, those I connected with had more time to engage in meaningful conversations. As a result, our relationships developed more quickly and deeply, often leading to new business opportunities.
It’s August for everyone, and while many people are out of the office, it’s your time to shine. If you’d like to discuss the best ways to align with people during this unique time of year, let’s connect. I’m available to help you grow your network and your business, leveraging this quiet period to your advantage.
Let’s seize this opportunity to make August a month of connection and growth, turning what is typically a slow time into a period of significant progress.
