Many people have asked me, “why is attitude more important than aptitude? I want to hire the smartest people possible because I want to create the best business.”
Guess what? Attitude is way more powerful! We have a choice every day how we react to what happens to us. If things do not go as we desire we can see the negative and be dragged down or we can see the problem as an exception or something we need to overcome. As Charles Swindoll said “I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.”
If we react incorrectly or let our response to negativity impact us for a fair amount of time there is nothing our brilliance can do to overcome those feelings. We let the negative stimuli drag us down and until we can move on we are stuck. Thus, our attitude dominates. It holds our aptitude hostage.
Look at life as an adventure painted in bright colors. Don’t let the dark moments impede progress. Take them as they come and recognize they are only temporary and will lift with hope and a positive attitude.
As one of the greatest entrepreneurs ever said when he spoke of what he looked for in other people-
Herb Kellerher (founder of Southwest Airlines) said “I hire for attitude and train for aptitude.”
