Have you ever been in a situation where the service interaction is just the way you wanted it? The company follows up on your requests and makes the transaction go smoothly. Even if there is a problem, they apologize and remedy the issue immediately. Those type of occurrences are what I define as true customer service! The customer is put first and whomever I talk to at the company is responsible for making me happy.
One such situation occurred at a coffee shop overseas. The coffee was not delivered as ordered and the staff did not seem to care about correcting the problem. On the receipt there was a number that said call if you are not completely satisfied. I called and the person who answered the phone was cheerful and immediately apologized for what transpired with my order and said this is not how we do business. The representative told me they would call the store manager and regional manager as well to ensure the problem is taken care of immediately so no one else will have this happen to them. I figured that was the end of the story but lo and behold the customer service representative said “we need to make it up to you for what transpired.” What I would like to do is give you 800 points on your frequent user card (which was good for 2 purchases of drinks in the future) and next time you are in you will receive a free coffee. Then she asked is that okay with you? I was speechless at first which is quite unusual for me as you know Then I said “ that is great. You really understand customer service. Thank you very much.” Needless to say I have shared this story with countless people.
