There’s a moment every November when a quiet decision gets made. Most people don’t even notice they’re making it. The goals set in January feel distant, the holidays are close, and the pull is to coast: “I’ll finish it next year.”
But here’s the truth about next year: it isn’t decided in January. It’s decided in the last 45 days of this one. What you close out now, the follow-up call you’ve been meaning to make, the proposal sitting in your drafts, the conversation you’ve postponed, becomes your momentum in Q1. What you leave open becomes the weight you carry into January.
So here are three moves to make between now and December 31.
First, close your loops. Look at everything you left open this year and either finish it or consciously release it. Unfinished business drains energy; finished business builds trust with clients, with teammates, and with yourself.
Second, pick one goal you can still fully complete this year. Not five. One. The brain can feel certain about one clear finish line, and crossing it changes how you see yourself going into the new year.
Third, write down what finishing it makes possible. When you know what’s on the other side of the finish line, “I should do this” becomes “I must do this.” Shoulds don’t move people. Musts do.
And one more thing, because this is the season for it: thank you! Thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your conversations this year. None of this work happens without you.
If you’re ready to finish the year strong but want a partner to help you get there, let’s connect. Sometimes the fastest way across a finish line is having someone in your corner who believes in what you’re capable of.
Let’s finish strong!
